French Week 2009

SALUT!

Bonjour les parents de BFCCPS!

Please help us celebrate French Week:

Monday, November 16- Friday, November 20

During this week, you can add to the celebration by adding something French to your child’s lunch box, greet your child with a “Bonjour!”,  “Au revoir!”, and  “Bon Appétit!” every night at the dinner table; and “Bravo” when they do a great job and “voilà”.

We have many ties with the French culture and as you will see, our school will be decorated with hundreds of posters and art work representing the many aspects of French culture that have had an impact on our lives and the many people who have contributed so much to our modern world. You will see posters illustrating scientists, mathematicians, writers, composers, artists, explorers, inventors, poets, actors, leaders, generals, fashion designers, and philosophers who have had a big impact on our lives. This year we are concentrating on “La Francophonie”, the French Speaking World.

  • Le petit déjeuner (Breakfast) will be available on Wednesday and Friday for 50c to $1.00 from 7:45 till 9:30.
It will vary from croissant, baguette, confiture (jelly), beignet (donut), crepes et chocolat (Hot chocolate).K- 8 room parents will help coordinate this event.
  • Question of the day over the PA system every day. Prizes given at the end of the day.
  • Tuesday, the grade 8 students will dress up as famous French people and we will have a small parade during lunch and recess. They will visit classes and talk about their contributions to our society.
  • First event is the Food and Cultural Fair on Wednesday, November 18 in the auditorium, from 1:30 PM until 3:00 PM.  We will have food, music, and posters.  All grades and community members are invited to attend.
  • Second event is La Bataille des Bistros (Battle of the bistros).  This event is a waiter/waitress relay between students and faculty. It will take place on Thursday, November 19, from 12:30 pm till 2:30 pm in the car park.We are hoping that the whole school will attend and cheer the teams; Les Bleus, Les Blancs and Les Rouges. If it is raining, this event will be held on Friday, same time.
  • Friday: A French assembly at 9:20 for K-4 and 10:15 for 5-8

In the evening of Friday, November 20 at 7:00 pm, we will be showing a French movie. The movie is to be announced at a later date. Students with their parents are invited to come.

If you can provide any food to help with the food fair on Wednesday, I am sure that the grade 8 students will appreciate it as the whole school will be invited to savor the food and
