Welcome to the BFCCPS Bullying Prevention Page
In the spring of
2010 the State of Massachusetts passed an act relative to bullying in schools.
This law made bullying a legal issue and mandated school action on any reported
incidence of bullying. It also mandated professional development for staff
related to bullying prevention and
intervention.
BFCCPS has been
proactive on this issue throughout our history. Our mission makes clear our
belief that it is our job to support
student character as well as academic growth. This culture and approach to
character education has positioned us
well to continue to educate our students about behaviors connected to bullying
and address any issues that arise.
This part of our
website was established with the goal of supporting you as the primary educator
of your child.
There are three sections:
·
The first section shares the BFCCPS Bullying Prevention and
Intervention Plan that was developed with the input of the faculty, and the
BFCCPS and Franklin communities. This plan outlines exactly what BFCCPS will do
to prevent and intervene in instances of bullying. This plan is submitted to the
state yearly.
·
The second section outlines exactly how to report to the school
an instance of bullying or suspected bullying. It is important
to note that as outlined in the new law, all adults are compelled to report
bullying to school officials.
·
The third section provides resources for parents to learn about
bullying and cyber bullying and how they might address these issues with their
children both proactively and effectively. This section will be updated as we
come across new and helpful resources for our
community to use.
