Board Committees

Currently the Board has established these committees with the respective purpose statements:

Finance, Anna Dos Santos

The Finance Committee is empowered to make recommendations and report to the Board regarding all financial matters. The Finance Committee is responsible for the oversight and review of the budget, changes and additions to the budget, overall school financial performance, and management of school investments. The Finance Committee also works closely with the Foundation Finance Committee.
All meetings, unless otherwise noted, will be held on Wednesdays, at 8:00am, in the office of the HOS. 
Meetings are usually held during the week prior to the Board of Trustees' monthly meeting.

Human Resources, Lori Clements

The Human Resources Committee works closely with the Head of School and administrators to implement policies and solve issues involving employees. The committee is responsible for updating employee procedures and policies in the employee handbook, and maintaining the salary grid with input from the finance committee.  In addition, representatives may be requested to serve on the interview committee for new hires.

Facilities,

The Facilities Committee is responsible for any real estate matters that affect the school. These issues include lease negotiations with the Archdiocese and the Parish, current issues at our existing leased school building and the options of either buying and renovating an existing building or the construction of a new school building on our Washington Street land.

Governance, Tim Tracy

The Governance Committee reviews the Board of Trustee's Bylaws as approved by the Department of Education. The Committee also reviews the school's policies, rules, and procedures. The Committee, when necessary, drafts new policies and procedures and recommends amendments to existing policies and procedures for the Board's consideration.

Mission, Gail Trotin

The Mission Committee supports the policy and educational objectives of the Board of Trustees with regard to Mission and Curriculum. It accomplishes these tasks through: information gathering, crafting documentation of the Mission program, deliberating to investigate new proposals, strategic planning to identify and recommend implementation objectives, and collaborating with faculty and staff to provide educational materials that support and promote the mission within our community. 
As a board level committee its purview does not include the day-to-day operations of the school. Implementation of the Mission is carried out by staff and parents operating under the direction of the Head of School. However, the HOS may at his/her discretion request assistance from the committee for particular issues as they arise.           
The Mission Committee provides an optimal forum for investigating the varied perspectives of board members, faculty/staff and parents on Mission and Curriculum issues. The committee supports the Board of Trustees’ need to reflect in their Mission and Curriculum policy decisions, understanding of the views of all stake holders. 

Nominating, Chuck Mayo

The Nominating Committee is comprised of two current members of the Board of Trustees, two members who are parents at the school and two members who are either full-time faculty or staff persons at the school. The two parent members and the two faculty/staff members are invited to join the committee through a notice in the Pink Sheet and if necessary through Board solicitation. The committee is formed in February and is responsible for requesting and recruiting persons who are interested in serving on the Board, for reviewing their biographical information and for presenting to the Board a list of recommended candidates for election.

Public Relations,

The Public Relations Committee provides an integrated effort of resources that facilitates the dynamic, effective and comprehensive flow of communication within our school community and throughout our broader community, which consistently embraces our school's image and serves the BFCCPS Mission.  Meetings are scheduled for 7:30pm to 9:00pm in the school Library unless otherwise announced.

AdHoc Committees

Technology

The Technology Committee is an AdHoc Committee to assist the Director of Technology to define and implement the technology needs of the school, both within the classroom as well as administratively.  In addition, the committee maintains  participates in data processing support.  

Task Forces

Dress Code Task Force, Michele Pearl, Jennifer Moccia
The Board of Trustees of BFCCPS recently voted to form a dress code task force committee to review the school's current
dress code and make any recommendations for changes to the Board.  At their meeting on Wednesday, May 21, the task
force evaluated the existing BFCCPS dress code and it's effectiveness at meeting the objectives of a dress code. 
The next task for the committee will involve investigating and evaluating options that are more effective than the current dress code. 
These options range in degree of variation from our current code, and may include: tightening the current dress code, designing a
code that reflects more uniformity, or choosing to require uniforms.  All members of the school community are encouraged to
share their thoughts on the topic and contribute to the process by either attending the task force meetings, or emailing task force
co chairs Michele Pearl (
michelepearl@hotmail.com) or Jennifer Moccia (ljscmoccia@aol.com). 
The next dress code task force meetings are scheduled for Tuesday, May 27 at 7:15 p.m. and Wednesday, June 4 at 7:00 p.m.

Enrollment Task Force,
Michele Pearl
The Enrollment Task Force is a group of community members that are focused on understanding how to best recruit and retain students for the BFCCPS, and to make recommendations to the Board of Trustees about enrollment policy, practices and creative ways to get the word out about the uniqueness of our school.

Organizational Task Force

This task force is charged to propose recommendations intended to augment the future organizational/leadership structure of the BFCCPS by investigating the organizational structures of schools similar in size, etc., establishing a list of "best practices", and developing recommendations specific to BFCCPS. The goal should expect to be active during the summer months and present recommendations to the Trustees at the November, 2006 meeting.
